Mouth says...

Jam is one of those wonderful comfort foods, recalling PB&J sandwiches that were the costars in innumerable childhood lunches. And, not to tarnish those golden memories, but we’ve found something to take your jam experience to the next level: Bow Hill Blueberry Jam. Each spoonful is loaded with beady little organic blueberries, preserved in sugar and bursting with late-summer juiciness, almost like a concentrated version of blueberry pie. It’ll bring a touch of summer sunshine to any day. And hey, you might even decide to make a PB&J and take it to the next level. Don’t forget the milk.

Watching the operations of Blue Hill, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Soltes family members are lifelong pro farmers. In reality, Harley and Susan along with their kids Amelia and Wylie took over the Skagit Valley’s oldest blueberry farm (founded in 1947) less than ten years ago. Every season, the four of them harvest 60,000 pounds of organic-certified berries with the help of 25 volunteers. Guess if you picked that many berries, you’d look professional too.

Tip of the Tongue:

Obviously when it comes to jam, our stomach immediately thinks breakfast, slathered on our morning toast or mixed into our granola and yogurt. But think outside the jar, people. This blueberry jam also makes for an excellent ice cream topping or vinaigrette addition.

And think about that woman who made all those PB&J’s of your childhood. Send a jar to mom as a small way to finally thank her for all those brown bags!
