Trellis Red 2012

You might mistake this wine for a Bordeaux, but this combination of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes is actually from Virginia! With a stunning, bright garnet color and aromas of black cherry, red plum and woodsy herbs, plus a velvety texture and the juicy flavor of more cherry, well, it totally blew us away.

The 2012 vintage has big, deep fruit flavors, balanced acidity and enough earthy tannin to make it a match for the meatiest of dishes!

Boxwood makes just five wines, all inspired by traditional Bordeaux blends and grown in the Bordeaux tradition: Tightly planted rows of vines are spaced two meters by one meter, trained on special trellises and exclusively cane-pruned. Oui, très Francais!

tip of the tongue

This is the big red to break out for steaks, grilled leg of lamb or mushroom bolognese. We really recommend decanting this style of wine an hour or two before you're going to serve it. If you don't have a decanter, just use any clean, dry glass pitcher, measuring cup or vase that will expose more of the wine to air (and hopefully won't make it too hard to pour the wine later).
