The Pok Pok CookbookMADE BY POK POK
Andy Ricker opened Pok Pok restaurant in Portland in 2005, after decades traveling throughout Thailand, and has since opened six more, one of which is about a mile away from Mouth (good luck getting in!). He's now – finally – sharing his secrets with the rest of us in this beautiful new cookbook.
The book includes 70 of Ricker's most popular recipes—ranging from curry noodle soup with chicken to papaya salad their famous fish-sauce wings. There are also wonderful essays about his travels and life experiences. And, by the time you've worked your way through the book, it's as if you've received a masters in Thai cooking!
Here's what Anthony Bourdain has to say: “This book, as far as I’m concerned, is an argument ender. When Andy says ‘make som tam lao like this,’ it’s like Jacques Pépin telling you how to make an omelette. The matter is settled. Previously, I would never have even attempted to prepare most of these dishes in my home. I had always felt that Thai food was best left to the experts. But this book has given me hope and confidence.”
