This is one smooth, mellow, distinctly American hooch.
In order for a spirit to be called "Scotch whiskey," it must be a product of Scotland. And while Colkegan Single Malt Whiskey is proud to pay homage to its heritage, this whiskey wouldn’t want to be called Scotch even if it could be!
While there are many similarities between Colkegan and its Scottish, single malt cousins (both are made entirely from carefully distilled malted barley and aged in oak barrels), there’s one distinct difference: While Scotch gets much of its flavor from peat-smoked malt, Colkegan gets its kick from a totally different type of smoked malt utilized by no other distillery in the world. Their single malt gets smoked with mesquite!
Santa Fe Spirits, founded by Colin Keegan in 2010, is located 7,000 feet above sea level at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in the heart of the Southwest. The distillers forage the surrounding area for ingredients to use in each spirit they make, resulting in a truly exceptional liquors that capture the unique terroir of Santa Fe.
Don’t mind if we do.
