Roknar Rye Whiskey
This very soft, warmly spiced, butter-smooth rye is destined for greatness. In keeping with the distillery’s Scandinavian lineup, it’s named after Ragnar, a Viking warrior and hero of Old Norse legend.
It may be a tall order, but Far North Spirits is working hard to establish Minnesota as a leader in rye grain production and craft rye whiskey. They’re certainly making history with this “field-to-glass” standout, made entirely from non-GMO winter rye and heirloom corn planted and harvested by head distiller Michael Swanson, on the distillery’s sprawling farm estate.
The grains are milled, fermented and distilled in very small batches on the same property. After aging one year in charred oak barrels, the spirit’s finished in a combination of Oloroso sherry and Cognac casks. The dedicated barrel-aging room is just steps from the fields, so this is a true taste of Minnesota.
Open the bottle and get a whiff of brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla bean and roasted almonds. Pour an ounce and taste those same notes in a rich and smooth sip, with a little smoky, woody, anise finish.
