Poco a Poco Mendocino County Grenache 2014

MADE BY PORTER-BASS WINERY IN GUERNEVILLE, CALIFORNIA

MOUTH SAYS...

Grenache is the wine to reach for when you want a lighter red that pairs with lots of foods, but won’t overwhelm your Mouth if drunk solo. This wine is like eating a deep-red strawberry: It starts sweet, gets a little Mouth-puckering tart and finishes almost herbaceous and leafy.

The cool climate in California’s Mendocino County makes for grapes that are naturally high in acid, but low enough in sugar to create a balanced wine. Porter-Bass Winery de-stems these biodynamically grown grapes but leaves them whole with skins on, so the natural yeasts are slower to start fermenting, which leads to more concentrated fresh berry flavor.

tip of the tongue

This is one of our favorite wines to pair with pizza, especially one that’s topped with spicy Italian sausage and sliced Salt-Cured Black Olives. For something new, try chilling down the bottle a bit before opening.
