Outryder, a playful spin on outrider (a cowhand who rides outside the herd to keep strays in check), is its own kind of outlyer. Like a bourbon with a high rye content, it’s actually a straight American whiskey: smooth, creamy and floods your senses with notes of cinnamon, allspice, honey, black pepper, butterscotch and toffee.
Outryder is made from two distinct mashes of grains with varying amounts of winter rye, corn and malted barley (all non-GMO and grown within 100 miles of the distillery, thank you very much). It’s then blended and “Bottled-in-Bond,” a legal certification created in 1897 to halt (at the time) the rampant adulteration of American whiskeys. To qualify for the “Bottled-in-Bond” certification, a whiskey must be the product of only one distillation season, crafted by one distiller at one distillery, aged at least four years and bottled at 100 proof.
But this Outryder might as well be called “Bottled-in-Bond, James Bond,” because it’s got one suave and daring personality. Perfect for sipping neat, yet bold enough to try and steal your next girlfriend cocktail.
