There is something uniquely satisfying about de-shelling a peanut shell to reveal what’s inside, almost as if working for it makes it more satisfying. And none are as satisfying as CB’s. Almost uncannily, there are only two ingredients: whole shell-on peanuts and sea salt. It leaves you scratching your head as to how the flavor is so rich.
The answer lies in the process. Unlike most purveyors which use a conveyor roaster which leads to uneven roasting, these distinctive peanuts are slow-roasted in small batches in a barrel-shaped oven while a “roastmaster” carefully monitors the process. That monocled character on the unnamed blue canister can step aside—there’s a new peanut in town.
If your only association with shell-on peanuts is that all-American pastime that is baseball, Clark Bowen (aka CB) would forgive you. The revelation for his business occurred to him at a Baltimore Mariners-Orioles game, and he first sold his fresh, warm peanuts outside of Qwest Field in Seattle. He’s clearly hit it out of the park.
Tip of the Tongue:
Enjoy these peanuts fresh from the bag! But CB also encourages true fans to reheat the nuts at 275 degrees for 8-10 minutes. You’ll experience the field-side sensation of cracking the shells open and enjoying the toasty nuts.
Organic peanuts, sea salt. Comes in a twelve ounce bag.
