If you're looking for a classic, sweet, mellow bourbon, look no further. This smooth sipper starts with a mash of 70% corn, along with barley and rye. It's distilled in Iowa, where corn is king (not kidding: They've erected a Corn Palace, with murals made of corn kernels, in its honor).
Expect the clean flavor of grain, with a bit of anise and a mellow, woodsy hint picked up from the time in barrels. It's subtle, but bright, with a honey-sweet finish. In other words, it's a little too drinkable . . . We're considering building a palace for this bourbon royalty.
Cedar Ridge Distillery was Iowa's first micro-distillery, and in 2010 this bourbon whiskey became Iowa's first since Prohibition. That's a long time for one of the country's top corn producers to continue importing a spirit that, by law, must be made of at least 51% corn! We're so glad to get a taste of Iowa's golden agricultural child, and we bet the locals don't mind either.

Since it's not trying to shock your Mouth with extreme spicy burn or intense vanilla, Iowa Bourbon is great to keep on hand for classic bourbon cocktails, like a Bourbon Sour. Combine 2 oz bourbon, 1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 teaspoon sugar. Shake with plenty of ice until very cold, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
