This is a true “farm-to-mug” operation, people! Cacao Prieto, based in Red Hook, Brooklyn, mixes 72% dark chocolate with a traditional blend of Dominican spices for a rich, comforting cold weather companion we wouldn’t want to be caught in a snowstorm without. Cacao Prieto was founded by Daniel Prieto Preston, an inventor and aerospace engineer, whose family has been farming organic cacao in the Dominican Republic for more than 100 years. The Prieto family owns Coralina Farms in the D.R., which provides all of the cacao for Cacao Prieto’s chocolates. Yep, this is one of the deepest, most complex hot cocoas we’ve come across, and we’ve sipped our way through tons. Pass the peppermint stick!
TIP OF THE TONGUE
Stir the chocolate into hot milk, or your coffee, and watch it melt. Shot of whiskey optional.
