Product Of The Day: Quinoa Whiskey

Yep, you heard right: Quinoa Whiskey! Quinoa might be a super-trendy superfood, but it's not exactly a common ingredient in hooch – but Corsair is out to change that!

Childhood friends Darek Bell and Andrew Webber started homebrewing beer and wine in Darek's garage. While working on a tricky prototype for a bio-diesel plant, Andrew joked that distilling whiskey would be way more satisfying. Yeah, the idea stuck.

The two studied distilling and spirits, and soon after founded Corsair in Nashville, with a second distillery in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

So, why quinoa? The folks at Corsair are fans of experimenting with different flavors and wanted to see what happened if they worked outside of the traditional big four whiskey ingredients: corn, wheat, barley and rye.

Their Quinoa Whiskey is made from 80% malted barley and 20% red and white quinoa, which gives it a nutty, grassy, slightly floral and spicy quality we can’t get enough of.

This is one unusual and delicious hooch, people.
