Sparkling skyscrapers illuminating the night sky, busy jaywalking pedestrians, even the honking taxi cabs – we love it all. In a city that never sleeps, here’s what we drink: Manhattans, of course.
Clearly we love this cocktail, so we've concocted a kit in its honor. It's got all that’s needed to turn your living room into a swanky cocktail bar, with indie ingredients to make swoon-worthy versions of this classic.
It starts with a rich local whiskey, from our neighbors at Breuckelen Distilling that strikes a great balance between rye’s black pepper bite and corn's caramel sweetness, and has a hint of oak-y vanilla. We also love this top-notch Sweet Vermouth: Quady Winery’s blend of Tinta Roriz (a Portuguese red) and Orange Muscat wines, infused with a secret combination of more than 17 herbs and spices, and neutral grape spirits to fortify the mix.
Manhattan can be a little bitter until you you get used to it. To help you acclimate, we included Aromatic Bitters from fellow Brooklynites that are, well, Hella Bitter. We don't think it gets much better than this complex, yet balanced mix of warm spices like cinnamon, star anise and cloves, floral rose hips, savory caraway and the balanced bitterness of shredded wormwood and calamus roots.

OUR MANHATTAN RECIPE
Combine 2 oz Breuckelen Distilling's 77 Local Rye and Corn Whiskey, ½ oz Vya Sweet Vermouth and 2-3 dashes of Hella Bitter Aromatic Bitters in a mixing glass with lots of ice. Stir well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass or a tumbler with fresh ice. Garnish with Jack Rudy Cocktail Co. Bourbon Cocktail Cherries and a strip of orange zest.
