Say "Ciao!" to summer and pucker up to a citrusy, Italian-inspired aperitivo that will whisk you away on a Vespa and take you back to that hot summer night where you had your first kiss after OD'ing on lemon sorbetto at the fair. You know the one.
Don Ciccio & Figli founder Francesco Amodeo will tell you he was born in a lemon grove. His grandfather had a distillery in Italy, near Positano, which was surrounded by 12 acres of lemon trees. One of his grandfather’s specialties was Amalfi’s famously sweet, refreshingly tart liqueur, limoncello, which is the backbone of this vibrant cocktail.
Francesco’s limoncello follows the same recipe his grandfather used in 1947: fresh lemons are hand-harvested between October and April, then brought to the distillery to be pressed. The limoncello is then aged in stainless steel vessels for 45 days – no more, no less.
We love sipping this cocktail in a tall glass, preferably somewhere with some kind of view. So we can pretend we’re on the Italian Riviera, of course.
1. In a tall collins glass filled with ice, combine limoncello and gin.
2. Add more ice and top with club soda.
3. Garnish with lemon wheel.
