A Beer Barrel Bourbon Cocktail For Your Favorite La-Z-Boy

Hops and hooch. What could be better?

This Beer Barrel Bourbon from New Holland Artisan Spirits has all of bourbon's classic caramel and vanilla flavor mixed with the dark and roasty undertones from malty beer. Yes, please.

New Holland actually started as a craft brewery, and they bring that same creative, free-spirited attitude to their spirits distillery, with a pretty cool system linking the two. The bourbon is first aged in brand new barrels made from white oak. (By law, bourbon must be aged in new oak barrels to be called bourbon.) It's then poured out to make room to age the brewery's dark, malty beer – Dragon's Milk Stout – which picks up rich vanilla and oak notes from the barrels. Once the beer is ready, it's time for the bourbon to return to the very same barrels for another three months.

This is the ultimate gift for someone who is always debating between drinking whiskey or beer. Why not have both?

This Valentine’s Day, there’s nothing wrong with being lazy:

2 ounces New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon
.75 ounces fresh lime juice
.5 ounce KAS Krupnikas Honey Liqueur
2 ounces stout beer

  1. Combine bourbon, lime juice and honey liqueur in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until blended and well chilled.
  2. Strain and pour into a chilled Collins or tall cocktail glass.
  3. Top with your favorite stout beer.
