One sip of Resolute Wines’ Cabernet and it was clear we were dealing with one of the most elegant Cabs to cross our tasting table. No shock, considering the experience of winemaker Aaron Pott.
Aaron first studied oenology at the University of California, Davis, where he also worked part-time in the research lab at Robert Mondavi Winery. He went on to get his Master’s in Viticulture from the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. And, because France is France, he decided to stay there for six more years to work as assistant winemaker under John Kongsgaard of Newton Vineyard. Oui, you could say Aaron knows his vin.
After his fill of Brie, striped shirts and baguettes (never!), Aaron returned to the States to take a position with Beringer Wine. In November 2012, he was named “Winemaker of the Year” by Food & Wine. Oh, and then he started his own winery. NBD.
The pièce de résistance: Each wine label is designed by artist Tony Hernandez, who has been painting and drawing since he was seven. After a brief stint working in construction, he decided to turn his dream into a reality and he’s been a professional painter for nearly 30 years now. We’re so into his illustrations we may or may not have scraped the labels off the bottle to save.
Resolute’s skillfully made and beautifully designed wines are the whole package – that’s what you get when a team comes together and does what it does best.
We’ll do what we do best, which is to open another bottle.
