Megpies Bakeshop

When Meghan Ritchie introduced her retro tarts at Brooklyn food market Smorgasburg, they quickly became a hot ticket. They've got such a following they're even listed as one of the Village Voice's top 100 dishes.

But Megpies had a humble start on a brownstone stoop in Brooklyn, with donuts, muffins and other baked goods catching the eyes and appetites of commuters headed to the nearby subway station. The ever-popular hand-pies debuted at Smorgasburg in 2012, doled out of the Anarchy In a Jar tent (because the pastries were once filled with those jams!). Meghan and partner Paul now have a smashingly sweet success on their hands, and we'll never look at pop tarts the same way again.
