Macaroons

Danny Macaroons is more than just a little company that makes coconutty cookies. Danny himself is a character to be reckoned with,a familiar face on the indie food circuit as well as a macaroon maestro. Everyone who has tasted his impossibly delicious cookies agrees, they are the best they've ever tasted. More than the humble sum of their parts, they're macaroons 2.0. Not just for Passover anymore.

Plain Macaroons

The original. Chewy, shredded coconut, held together just so, scented with a touch of vanilla. Would be great in a kiddo's (or grown-ups) lunch or as a little after work/school snack, or as a pre-workout power bite. Coconut is sort of good for you, right?

INGREDIENTS: Sweetened shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, pure vanilla extract, egg whites, salt. Comes in a pack of 6.

Dulce de Leche Macaroons

These macaroons should taste extra sweet, and not just because of the dulce de leche glaze. Danny is donating the proceeds of these cookies to his friend and fellow good-food maker Fany Gerson, aka La Newyorkina. The cookbook writer and popsicle maker's business was devastated by Hurricane Sandy, but she's working hard to get her kitchen up and running again. These cookies taste great and also do good (our favorite kind of pairing).

Chocolate-Dipped Macaroons

There is something so extra indulgent about these chocolate dipped baubles; that super satisfying chew, the snap of dark chocolate, generously drizzled all over the top like a little reverse snow-cap. These cookies will win you over in no time, so just give in already

Roasted Almond Macaroons

Macaroons are a humble cookie, often overlooked of late in favor of their fancy, pastel-hued Parisienne cousin. If these dark chocolate-and-toasty-almond topped delicacies don't convince you that good old fashioned macaroons are ready for their close up, nothing will. Addictive enough to induce hoarding behavior, elegant enough to serve for a special (and easy!) dessert at your next dinner party.
